With 2010 coming to a close, the inevitable day of reckoning and resolutions is near. Reminders of resolutions gone awry linger in the air.
Even though this is the time of year that I find myself reflecting on what I have (or haven’t) accomplished in the past 365 days, my motto has always been ” Say No to Resolutions!”
Now, don’t get me wrong…as I mentioned…this IS the time of year that I think about what I have done with these 365 days gifted to me last Dec 31. What have I learned? And better yet, how can I take those “learnings” and apply them to the new calendar year?
But as I reflect on the days gone by, I will not wallow in the “woulda, coulda, shoulda” moments that still inhabit small pieces of real estate inside my brain. I will skip all those righteous resolutions of losing weight, eating healthier, and being simply amazing this year. I will, however, set one goal. A personal “vow,” if you will, not to be confused with an all-out New Year’s resolution, of course.
As I’m rather fond of the Middle Way of all things, I’ve decided that my personal goal for 2011 is to have (more) fun. To laugh uncontrollably, and to never regret anything that makes me smile. (It beats the heck out of resolving to lose those 10 pounds that have now crept up to 12 or 13 since last year.)
So to jump start my “year of fun,” I’ve had the following quote stenciled on my office wall:
“We don’t stop playing because we get old. We get old because we stop playing.”
An appropriate reminder, I’d say. Now if I could only remember the rules to “Red Rover, Red Rover”…Anyone?
It’s been a tough year for so many, and my wish for the new year is that everyone finds much to smile about. That there is lots of laughter. That people find time to play.
So, what New Year’s resolution (or goal) are you going to pledge for 2011?
We want to know! Share your “vow” below, or tweet using the hashtag #NewYearVow.
Wishing all of you a very Happy New Year!
